Morioh High School – Lore and Background from JoJo
Learn about Budogaoka High School, the real-world inspiration, and the JoJo lore behind Morioh High. Discover the school
Morioh High in the Roblox game is based on Budogaoka High School (葡萄丘高校, Budo-ga Oka Kōkō), the fictional high school from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable. Understanding the school's background and its role in the series adds depth to the game experience.
School Name and Meaning
The school's Japanese name is Budo-ga Oka (葡萄丘), which literally translates to "the hill of grapes." It is a private high school (and middle school) located in the northwest area of the fictional town of Morioh. The school was founded in 1914.
Real-World Inspiration
Budogaoka High School is modeled on Tsutsuji-ga Oka High School, a real school in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. Series creator Hirohiko Araki based the setting of Morioh on his hometown of Sendai, and many location names throughout the series are inspired by real places in the area.
Role in Diamond is Unbreakable
In JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable, Budogaoka High School is attended by several main characters, including:
- Josuke Higashikata — The protagonist of Diamond is Unbreakable.
- Okuyasu Nijimura — Josuke's friend and ally.
- Koichi Hirose — Another close friend of Josuke.
- Rohan Kishibe — A manga artist who also attended the school.
The school serves as a central location for many key events in the series, including Stand battles, character interactions, and the daily life of Morioh's teenage residents.
School Uniform
Like most Japanese high schools, Budogaoka High has a distinctive uniform. In the series, students wear a traditional Japanese school uniform — for boys, this typically includes a black or navy gakuran-style uniform with a standing collar and gold buttons. The uniform design reflects the school's private status and its setting in 1990s Japan.
School Campus
The Budogaoka campus includes:
- Main academic building
- Sports grounds
- Club rooms
- Courtyard and entrance gates
The school is situated on a hill overlooking parts of Morioh, giving it a distinctive visual identity within the town.
In the Roblox Game
In Morioh High on Roblox, the school serves as the primary gameplay setting. Players attend classes, interact with NPCs based on JoJo characters, and explore a recreation of the Budogaoka campus inspired by the anime and manga.
